Acts Of Kindness Amidst March Madness 🤍🖤

From some refs you might recognize and some you don’t…

As basketball fans all across the country (and sometimes the world) gather to cheer on their favorite collegiate teams, “March Madness” has always been known for it’s pageantry, passion, and dramatic moments.

Similar to the craziness that exists in the world today, the sport of basketball has always seemed to create a different “craze” this time of year.

As adversaries exist between countries, political parties, etc. the competition of the sport creates adversaries between each team and sometimes, unfortunately, the officiating crew.

However, two moments in March caught our eye that we felt deserved some recognition:

In the 2025 NCAA Men’s Tournament, veteran official Roger Ayers (above) can be seen using the “Rule of Elasticity” to provide a student-athlete with a memory he will cherish forever…checking into his first ever NCAA tournament game. (Click this link to read full article).

On a stage perhaps seen by less people…

Local Florida official, Noble Tsumas (below), took it upon herself to be a human amidst a high stakes Girl’s State Championship game. She helped a visibly flustered student-athlete, calmly untie a knot in her shoelaces that she was unable to get out. Not only ensuring player safety, but providing a genuine moment as well.

Kudos to these two officials. As we strive to enforce the rules of the game to the best of our abilities, we must not forget who are involved in all of these contests…

Lazy Mechanics Leads To Big Trouble

[Via REF SKOOL Group Call Clips]

We discuss the importance of having good mechanics and fundamentals in basketball officiating. This play in particular targets a shooter’s landing space.

Lazy/poor mechanics arise at the worst times and we need to be solid on OBVIOUS plays.

When we understand and trust the system, each crew member can be individually great, thus resulting in better crew dynamics.
